Emily Achieng' Akuno (Kenya)

Emily Akuno is deputy vice-chancellor, academic affairs at the Co-operative University of Kenya.

She holds a doctor of philosophy degree from Kingston University in the UK, a masters in music from the Northwestern State University in the US and a bachelor of education (Arts) from Kenyatta University in Kenya.

She is widely published with more than 40 academic works in journals, books and conference publications. She has actively been involved in music education in Kenya with more than 30 years experience in administration.

Emily Akuno has also taught postgraduate and undergraduate courses in musicology, performance and music education in various East African universities. At the same time she has engaged in the creation of many music curricula for universities and middle-level colleges across the continent.

She is currently a member of the International Society for Music Education (ISME) and sits on the steering committee of the International Network for Research in Arts Education (INRAE). She previously served as IMC treasurer before her election.
