Percussion is one of the gems of the world’s artistic languages with a long and varied history; Shanghai, an international metropolis blending global economy and culture, holds remarkable and unlimited prospects. The International Percussion Education Association (IPEA) International Percussion Competition, born in Shanghai, aims to integrate the city’s spirit of “being all-inclusive and pursuing excellence” through the use of the language of music, specifically percussion, to unify the world, bring together talents and trends from all across the globe, transcend backgrounds and ethnicities, and provide a world-class exchange platform for professionals and percussion enthusiasts.
The IPEA International Percussion Competition is hosted and fully sponsored by Shanghai Conservatory of Music, and organized by the International Percussion Center of Shanghai Conservatory of Music and IPEA. The president of the competition is Professor Changyong Liao , President of Shanghai Conservatory of Music.
As one of Shanghai Conservatory of Music’s international competitions, it exemplifies the institution’s mission and vision, using percussion to build bridges to other international competitions. At the same time, as a member of the International Music Council (IMC), IPEA also undertakes the responsibility and mission of protecting and promoting percussion-related culture, as well as education and development.
