The Culture2030Goal campaign, of which IMC is a founding member, has formally launched the process of developing a new goal. Read on to find out about the roadmap, and to participate in the survey.

The Pact for the Future represents not only a landmark moment in the work of the UN this decade, but also a key step in the drive to ensure that the relevance of the arts, culture and heritage for development is recognised.
While the Pact, including the Global Digital Compact and Declaration on Future Generations that were annexed to it, did not go as far as they might have done, they still underline the need to integrate culture into policy-making.As the Culture2030Goal campaign we have already set out our ideas around how we can follow up on the Pact’s commitments through work at the UN.

And we’ve recently had the excellent news that the G20 Culture Declaration has repeated the commitment made last year in India to a culture goal in the post-2030 development framework.

So what’s next?

As a campaign, we believe that it is time to take the discussion up a gear.
We need both to consolidate the momentum, and to ensure that we are benefitting from the inputs and insights from as wide a group of stakeholders as possible. To do this, we are therefore happy formally to launch the process of development of an extended and updated version of the zero draft of a culture goal that the campaign published in September 2022.

The timing of this work is closely linked to the Mondiacult 2025 conference, to be organised by UNESCO in Barcelona. This will focus on the idea of a culture goal, and should be a great opportunity to consolidate efforts in the culture community. We hope that our work will provide strong and meaningful support for this work. Yet the process will also offer an opportunity to work with the full range of communities involved in sustainable development.

This will be essential in order to ensure the relevance of our work –any goal produced needs to reflect the full richness of the contribution culture makes to success in other areas of work. We cannot do that without taking their perspectives into account.

What then is the next step?

We’re happy today to be sharing an overview of our roadmap for advancing from our zero draft to a Version 1 of our culture goal. This sets our our plan to gather inputs and evidence to update the goal, enhance it by adding indicators, and engage with a wide range of partners.

A key part of this is a survey to gather views from around the world. You can find this at this link, in English, French, Spanish and Arabic.

Deadline: 31 March!

We look forward to receiving your inputs!
