Born Lester William Polsfuss in Waukesha, Wisc., on June 9, 1915, Paul began playing the harmonica at the age of eight, later taking up the guitar and inventing a neck-worn harmonica holder that let him play both sides of the harmonica hands-free while playing the guitar.
