A Vision for an Equitable Ecosystem

Fair Music is not just a platform—it’s a movement for cultural equity in the digital age. By putting the needs of creators front and center, the project sets out to fix the deep-rooted inequalities that plague the global streaming industry. Through extensive consultations creators are given a direct voice in how algorithms work, how content is promoted, and how revenues are split. This participatory approach is a model for how digital services should be built—with ethics and fairness by design.
The Fair Music team is also taking aim at some of the industry’s worst habits, including the proliferation of fake streams, algorithmic bias that favors established acts, and poor audio quality due to compression. Their goal is to create a more diverse and trustworthy listening environment that values quality over quantity and authenticity over manipulation.
To support this, Fair Music is developing a beta platform that will serve as a real-world testbed for its ideas. This includes training programs for rights management, detailed legal research on digital compensation models, and coordinated policy advocacy efforts across the EU. These combined efforts aim to set new standards for fairness in music streaming—standards that can inform EU legislation and reshape public expectations.
The Fair Music Project is Co-Funded by the Creative Europe Programme of the European Union.
